Maizah is a Christian from Libya who had a profound spiritual experience that she couldn’t explain away. Lying in bed, alone in her room, she felt someone touch her feet. Suddenly she saw a man shining like light and felt happy just because of his presence. ‘I am the Way, the Truth and the Life,’ he said and was gone.
The civil war started in Libya and her family fled to Egypt where she met a Christian neighbour. Her relatives warned her against this woman because of her religion.
But she began to visit the woman daily. She told her about the man she saw in her bedroom. The woman told her it was Jesus, and showed her the Bible verse which said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”
Her Egyptian friend helped her to contact an Egyptian Christian family in Libya. They met for 2 years in secret but some of those she met with were then arrested. Her birth family found her and tricked her into coming home.
The living room of her home was filled with bearded men in white robes. They questioned her and beat her, but she felt that she was being protected and didn’t feel the pain. The leader offered to marry her, but she said she needed to see a doctor before she could do so.
Taken to neighbouring Tunisia where she had memorised a pastor’s phone number and was helped by a doctor to escape to a safe house. Her outraged family searched for her, but the safe house was safe indeed. Today, she lives in another country and still serves Jesus.
