Daniel Centre

All the lads in the Centre are now meaningfully employed in businesses around Cluj. Danny who works with Balazs in the Centre has degrees in Social Work and Law.

Danny and Alexandra have had 572 sessions with the lads over the first three months of the year including counselling, workshops, house meetings, recreational activities, Bible groups, practical activities and informal discussions.

Balazs now spends only 15% of his time on Daniel Centre issues and would even like to step back from his work on the Blythswood board for Romania, praying that the board will become fully Romanian in future.

He would like to see the Shoeboxes work more focussed in the Balkans and extend the online shoeboxes in Pakistan. He still works with Blythswood’s partners in Ukraine, and is responsible to sponsors who continue to support them now that Christian Aid to Ukraine has come to an end.

Talita Kum

Adi has 4 Blythswood charity shops in Jimboliya financing his work with Talita Kum but government restrictions on importing charity goods may mean that he will have to reduce to two shops in the near future.

Daniel Centre

They now have one new lad in the Centre – seven lads now out of a capacity of eight or nine. All the lads receive £500 monthly from the government on condition that they are actively looking for employment.

Balazs’s wife Agnes has been running the Basis programme for a long time now to provide food parcels for needy families. Blythswood plan to wind up Basis in July as the families are now receiving better support from the government.

Following up on their trip to Africa last month, Jeremy Ross is now considering Blythswood’s giving the necessary financial support to a community of 3,000 people on Rusinga Island near the Sargy school in Kenya for a project to supply drinking water there. They are also hoping to support a young lady who could possibly take over the Streams of Hope in Zimbabwe when the current 78-year-old founder of the programme is no longer able to run it.

A second Beacon Centre has now been opened in a slum in Mumbai, India not far from the original multi-storey Beacon Centre which provides after-school support for 50 children
of ladies from the red-light district of Navi Mumbai.

Talita Kum

Adi has thankfully found Talitha Kum’s tax is less than anticipated and work has been running smoothly there.
