Blythswood Update, April 4th 2018

Talita Kum

Continue to give God thanks for those in Blythswood and their Romanian partners who are committed to working with these younger children in Talita Kum – the seeds of future Romania.  Pray for the power and grace to keep on loving when children prove difficult to handle.

Many of these children would have no other opportunity to see the Christian faith being lived out daily and may have seen all kinds of questionable behaviour.  So please remember those Romanians who have been called by God to pour their lives into the young.

 Daniel Centre

Please continue to pray for Daniel Centre’s staff and volunteers.

Young men who have had to fend for themselves and learn to be independent are now having to learn how to live in a close community supervised by committed Christians and with other young men drawn from a variety of backgrounds.  That can prove a bridge too far for many young men.

But the power of God can break down barriers and defences and open up these lives for unlimited Christian growth and potential.  The daily spiritual dynamic of the Centre is critical for the future of these young men.

Blythswood Update March 21st 2018

Talita Kum

Every God-given ministry requires faithfulness, integrity and perseverance.  Pray for those called to work among the children of Talita Kum, that their example will inspire the children with whom they work and that their example will live on in the memory of these children throughout their adult years.

Pray that God will bring to Talita Kum the children of His purpose and that the influence of Talita Kum and the adults who run it will spread not only to the children but also to their families and the wider Romanian community.

 Daniel Centre

Relationships formed in our late teens can last with us for many years.  Pray that the relationships that the young men of the Daniel Centre form with each other will continue to strengthen and encourage them far beyond the years that they spend there.

Pray that the staff of the Centre will be encouraged to see fruit from their labours and have the strength and faith to go on loving and inspiring the young men even when the inevitable problems arise and when the spiritual enemy endeavours to undermine their labours.

Blythswood Update March 2018

Blythswood – March Update 1

Talita Kum

Continue to give God thanks for those in Blythswood and also their Romanian partners who are committed to working with these younger children in Talita Kum – the seeds of future Romania.

Many of these children would have no other opportunity to see the Christian faith being lived out on a daily basis.  So please remember those Romanians who have been called by God to pour their lives into the young.

Daniel Centre

Please continue to pray for Daniel Centre’s staff and volunteers.

It is not always easy to adapt from living on your own, or perhaps in a dysfunctional family, to living in a close community supervised by committed Christians and with other young men drawn from a variety of backgrounds.

Yet the potential for making a great change in your community is there.  The daily spiritual dynamic of the Centre is critical for the future of these young men.

Blythswood Update Jan 2018

Blythswood – January Update 1

Talita Kum

Give thanks for the £1000 donation from Souter Charitable Trust for Talita Kum 2.

Daniel Centre

Pray for the young men in the Centre, that they would settle in and that their individual care programmes would work well for them.

The system of donating every month is not new to Blythswood Care.  Last year, we gave it a new name – Life Transformer – because that is what the donations do; transform lives.

The Life Transformer programme is initially a one-year commitment to partner with Blythswood Care.

Donors will follow the story of Adrian, a young man in the Daniel Centre, whose life is gradually being transformed through his experience of the care, encouragement and support and he is receiving.

Blythswood Update Dec 22nd 2017

Blythswood – December Update 2

Talita Kum

The Mission Team discussed the possibility of transferring our support to other areas of Blythswood.  We felt, however, that the Castle Street church family had slowly come to learn more about the Talita Kum and Daniel Centre projects over the past year and that it would be good to extend that growing acquaintance with these two projects for at least another year.

Remember the school children as they spend the Christmas holidays away from the daily influence of the Christians who run the Talita Kum project.

Daniel Centre

As mentioned above in relation to Talita Kum, our congregation will continue to give monthly support to the Daniel Centre for the coming year.

Some of the young people in the Daniel Centre will be having their first experience of Christmas in a genuine Christian environment.

Pray that the wonder of the first Christmas 2000 years ago will also be the wonder of these young men as they spend Christmas together with their fellow residents and committed Christian leaders.

Blythswood Update Dec 5th 2017

Blythswood – December Update 1

Talita Kum

Talita Kum has the full support of the school and town mayor. Local teachers volunteer their time to help. Talita Kum has made basic improvements to the housing of some of the poorest families, benefiting the children and their parents.

We now have a charity shop in Jimbolia which is very successful. The profits from the shop go towards the costs of running the after-school club with the aim of making it self-sufficient in time.

Daniel Centre

Since 2000, the Daniel Centre, near Cluj-Napoca in Romania, has offered a home to almost 100 abandoned young men.

Young people leaving state care often end up living on the streets.  Growing up, they receive very little education or training in life skills and struggle to find work and somewhere to live.

Up to 18 young men can be accommodated in a Christian environment, learning to cook, wash and iron their clothes, to keep their rooms clean and tidy and to help with jobs around the Centre. They then progress to semi- independent living in on-site apartments.

Those who have achieved independence still regard the Daniel Centre as home, knowing that there is always an open door.

Blythswood Update 22nd Nov 2017

Blythswood – November Update 2

Talita Kum

Please continue to pray for the children at Talita Kum as they progress in their new term.  The impact of these months of constant contact for the children with Romanian Christians cannot be over-estimated.

Pray for the two Blythswood Banat charity shops in south west Romania.  Pray that this work would continue to make a valuable contribution towards the costs of Talita Kum.

Daniel Centre

Pray for this year’s new boys at the Daniel Centre as they settle in.

Pray that they settle in well and have a good time with over over the coming months.

Blythswood Update 7th Nov 2017

Blythswood – November Update 1

Talita Kum

Two years ago, Flore was enrolled in Talita Kum.  She proved to be one of the most challenging children the staff had ever encountered.  “Flore was a little wild at first,” says Flavia, one of Talita Kum’s social workers.  “But now she has made more progress than any other child at Talita Kum.”

She will now sit quietly and do her maths homework by herself.  Skilled teachers are helping her to read both Romanian and, the language of her family, Hungarian.  She has successfully completed the first two years at school and is now in grade three.  She has also learned how to socialise, and the other children accept her well.

Daniel Centre

The Life Transformer programme is up and running, offering supporters the opportunity to make a commitment to partner with Blythswood Care for at least a year in giving a regular amount.  Donors will follow the story of Adrian, a young man at Daniel Centre, through regular updates.

A group of 9 folk from the UK took part in the Charity Challenge Trek to the 4600 metre Machu Picchu in Peru in October to raise funds for Blythswood Care.  The £15,000 raised will be split between Talita Kum and Daniel Centre.

Blythswood Update 18th Oct 2017

Blythswood – October Update 2

Talita Kum

Continue to pray for the Romanian believers who work each week with the children now enrolled in Blythswood’s after-school programme for children from low-income homes.  They may well be the only Christians that these young people meet during their school years.

Pray that relationships will be formed in Talita Kum that the children will look back on and remember with love and gratitude, relationships that may extend into their adult years for the glory of God.

Daniel Centre

Continue to pray also for the Romanian believers who work with the young men who are currently part of the Daniel Centre.  This kind of work is costly, requiring a commitment and dedication to model the true life of Christ on a daily basis.

Pray for the young men who pass through the Centre that their adult lives will make an increasing impact on the Romania of the future.

Blythswood Update 4th Oct 2017

Blythswood – October Update 1

Talita Kum

With the new school year now underway, please continue to pray for all the children now enrolled in Blythswood’s after-school programme for children from low-income homes.

Pray particularly that their days and years in Talita Kum will be times that they will never forget as they grow up, times that will lead them to the Saviour and to adult lives that will be for the glory of God.

Daniel Centre

Continue to remember the young men who are currently part of the Daniel Centre as they learn skills that enable them to transition from secondary school to the job market.

Pray for the staff members who have the awesome responsibility and privilege of living out the reality of Christ for these young men so that their adult lives will continue to bear the influence of their time in the Centre.
