Blythswood Update – September 17th 2018

Talita Kum

As new and returning children begin school again, pray for the leaders and helpers at Talita Kum who will be interacting with these children as they come in for meals, hot showers and help with homework each school day.

The staff of Talita Kum may well be the only Christians that the children will see and come to know at close quarters during their school years, so the influence of these adults on the young lives is hard to imagine.

 Daniel Centre

Pray for Balazs Csiszer and his team who manage the Daniel Centre in Cluj, Romania. Give thanks for the refurbishment work that was done by the Go Relief team from Northern and Southern Ireland.

 Daniel Centre

Similarly pray for the leaders and mentors at the Daniel Centre where there is even greater interaction with the young men as it is a full-time residential home.

Many encouraging stories have already been documented of young lives transformed by the support and genuine love that these young men experience from these committed staff members.

Blythswood Update – August 20th 2018

Talita Kum

Back to school shortly, so pray for children who will have their first impressions of Talita Kum this autumn.

Pray for those who will return to Talita Kum, and especially for those who may have come to faith in Christ at one of the summer camps.

Pray for those who have now finished school, that the memories of Talita Kum will be an abiding influence in their lives.

 Daniel Centre

Gheorghe was abandoned when he was born and went straight into state care. After leaving state care when he became an adult, he came to The Daniel Centre.

For the first time in his life people were interested in him and wanted to help him. After training is now a chef in a 5-star restaurant overseeing a team of 6 other chefs.

The Daniel Centre helped him contact his mother, who is from the Gypsy community and his 10 siblings whom he had never met.  Amazingly he was able to deliver shoeboxes to them during a Shoe Box Appeal.

Blythswood Update – August 1st 2018

Talita Kum

As pupils from the Inverness academies return home after time in Romania, pray that their vision of serving God in foreign parts will continue to inspire them as they consider their own futures.

Pray for true spiritual refreshment over the summer for staff at the Talita Kum houses as they prepare to give themselves for another year of dedicated loving to the children from deprived homes during their school days.

Pray for the children who will return to Talita Kum, for those who will come for the first time and especially for those who may have come to faith in Christ at one of the summer camps.

Pray for the children who have now finished school and will no longer be at Talita Kum, that the memories of Talita Kum will be an abiding memory and influence in their lives.

 Daniel Centre

Pray God to prepare the hearts and minds of the young men who will join or continue to live in the Daniel Centre this year for a work of His power.  The potential of such men under the influence of God’s Spirit for the future of Romania is beyond our imagining.

Pray for spiritual refreshment over the summer for staff at the Daniel Centre as they give themselves sacrificially to modelling the life of Christ for the young men that are in the Centre with them.

Talita Kum

With schools closing for the summer, Talita Kum will also be having a quieter summer.

Pray for both primary and secondary school children who will be introduced to the Talita Kum houses for the first time this year and that whole new families will be influenced towards Jesus through seeing the love of the Talita Kum workers for their children.

Continue to pray for the children who will return to Talita Kum after the summer as “old-timers” in the houses, and that the influence of Talita Kum will play an ever-deepening part in their wider family lives.

Pray for young folks who may have come to faith in Christ at one of the summer camps and will return to Talita Kum with new insights into what the houses are all about.

Daniel Centre

Pray for any young men who may be joining the Daniel Centre after the summer that they will quickly feel themselves at home with the other young men and staff who are already in place.

We continue to believe with Blythswood that some or any of these young men may become leaders in their home country and influence future generations for Christ and His gospel.

Talita Kum

With schools closing for the summer, Talita Kum will also be having a quieter summer.

Some of the children will have been through both primary and secondary school while studying in the area where Talita Kum operates.  Pray for those who move on to fresh pastures.

For those who will come back after the summer, pray that their summers at home will make them realise anew what Talita Kum has been for them.  Pray that the influence of Talita Kum will reach deeply into their home lives.

If any of the young folks get to summer camps, pray that will be another piece in the jigsaw of faith for their lives.

Please pray for the teams visiting Romania from Culloden, Inverness Royal and Millburn academies.  Pray for a life-impacting experience at camp for them and the children they work with.

 Daniel Centre

Continue to pray for the work of Daniel Centre and that those who pour their lives into the young men under their care will know God’s continuous refreshment.

Talita Kum

Over 1000 Romanian children have been provided with a place to learn, with nutritious food and with showering facilities at Talita Kum since it opened in 2001.

Like many of the children, Ramona was a shy girl, living with her grandmother on a low income and had no-one at home to help and encourage her in her studies.

At Talita Kum, she discovered a gift for writing.  She produced the script for our musical show Esther and went on to take the lead role!

She was able to finish secondary school, successfully passing her exams.  Since the clothes industry is big business in Romania, her training in leather and textiles will help her find work locally.

Daniel Centre

Blythswood have five shops in Romania which help to generate income for the Talita Kum and Daniel House projects.  Castle Street also contributes each month to these projects from our Mission Fund.

Teams from Culloden, Inverness Royal and Millburn Academies head to Romania this month to help run camps for young people there.

Pray that the Scottish students will be inspired towards a lifelong commitment to serving others for Jesus’ sake through their summer experience.

Blythswood – May Update 2

Talita Kum

With your support, a 12-year-old girl is working hard to make up for years of missed primary education.  When she was six, Andreea’s family moved to Italy and none of their children was ever enrolled in school there.

By the time they returned to Romania, Andreea was severely disadvantaged.  She didn’t know how to read or write and was left very shy and withdrawn in the company of other children.

Talita Kum, where she receives a cooked meal and has access to hot showers and clean clothes, is now helping Andreea make up for lost time.  Since joining Talita Kum last summer, she has not missed a single day at school.

Daniel Centre

Following the death of his father, Adrian wanted to be able to take care of his mother and brother who has special needs, but poverty forced him to give up education.

With little education, getting or keeping a job is a real challenge but, again thanks to people like you, he is now taking a different path.

He is learning life-skills at the Daniel Centre and has discovered a talent for cooking.  As his confidence has grown, he has found a job at a bakery.  Adrian’s dream – to be a football coach – is now looking more achievable.

Talita Kum

Give thanks for more than 1000 children who have been given a place to learn since Talita Kum first opened in 2001.

Please remember in prayer James Campbell, the CEO of Blythswood, as he will be in Romania from now until May 29th.

Daniel Centre

Give thanks for more than 120 young men who have been helped to rebuild their lives at the Daniel Centre since it first opened in 2000.

Pray for the continuing impact that such young men will have in their communities and in the future church life of Romania.

Also remember Blythswood’s five shops in Romania which help to generate the income required for the Daniel Centre and Talita Kum projects.

Talita Kum

Talita Kum is Blythswood’s after-school programme in western Romania, first opened in 2001.

“Izaura came from one of the poorest Roma families in Jimbolia, facing every disadvantage in her education. Both parents were illiterate and, seeing little value in education, were late in enrolling their children in school.

Her father was abusive, violent towards his children and his neighbours, and spent some time in jail.

In spite of everything, Izaura did well at school. And this she attributes to the help she received at Talita Kum.

Adrian Popa’s ambition has been to improve the life chances of the poorest children in his home town of Jimbolia.  He observes that the rate of early school leaving fell from 45% in 2009 to just 1.5% in 2017.

“The TK programme means better people.  The youngsters who go through the programme really add value to their community.”
